On December 6th, we remember the 14 women whose lives were tragically taken at Polytechnique Montréal in 1989. On that day, an armed gunman entered the institution and deliberately targeted women in an anti-feminist attack. This day serves both as a moment of remembrance and a call to action against the gender-based violence that continues to affect our communities.
Women, girls, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community face disproportionate levels of discrimination, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and emotional abuse. Recognizing and understanding gender-based violence is a vital first step toward breaking these harmful cycles. We encourage all students to speak out against disrespectful behaviour and to learn about the community resources available to help prevent and respond to violence.
