One Month Laptop Loans

This loan program is designed to provide a laptop for temporary usage until a student can purchase their own computer. It is your responsibility to provide your laptop for your studies as outlined in the Program Technology Requirements. Laptops are available to borrow for one month. We do not guarantee availability as laptops are limited. They are available on a first come, first served basis.

Computers Available in the Library

Computers and high speed internet are available to use in the Library Learning Commons on every campus. The Library Learning Commons is accessible to students during class hours as well as evenings during the week and weekends (please see the hours listed at the bottom of the page).

Laptop Loan FAQs

Please read the following FAQs to learn more about the laptop loan program and if you are eligible for a short-term laptop loan.

Any NBCC student who has a temporary need for a laptop can apply. Note that this program is a short term, one month program ONLY. It does not offer laptops for a full term. Students are responsible for supplying their own laptop after the 30 days are up.

  • Any student who is experiencing temporary issues with their current laptop, which needs to be sent away for repair.
  • A student who is experiencing an emergency issue with their current laptop and requires a laptop as a short-term solution.
  • A student who has experienced a delay in receiving scholarship or bursary funding to purchase their own laptop.

Applications are considered in the order that they are received. A laptop loan is not guaranteed as there are a limited number of laptops available to loan. This is a courtesy service offered by NBCC to help students in temporary emergency situations.

Students should fill out the application on the Laptop Loan page to apply.

Requests are typically processed within one to two weeks during peak times (the beginning of a term) and within 2-3 business days outside of peak times. You won’t receive an immediate response when you apply. If you’ve been placed on a waitlist, you will receive an email response within a few days.

You can borrow the laptop for up to one month. If you are finished using the laptop before that time, we ask that you return it as soon as you no longer need it so it can be set up for the next student.

Laptops are listed as a requirement for your study. More information and minimum requirements are listed here. There may be scholarships or bursaries you can apply for to help you buy your own device. Money Matters can work with you to create a plan and look at possible resources to help you get the funds you need to purchase your own laptop. Learn more on the Money Matters page and email money.matters@nbcc.ca to schedule an appointment.

If funds are an issue because you’re having trouble finding part-time work, you can find tips and information on job hunting and resume writing on the library's Finding a Job guide and on NBCC's Career Services page.

There may be additional scholarships or bursaries you can apply for. Learn more about what funding is available on the Money Matters page.

You may apply for a laptop loan and borrow a laptop for up to 30 days while you wait for your funding to come in.

The program is not intended to provide you with a long-term laptop. It's intended to provide a temporary solution for emergencies such as delayed funding or to temporarily replace your broken laptop while it is being repaired. This is a courtesy service offered by NBCC. We are not required to provide you with a laptop for your studies. It is your own responsibility.

Having a laptop is your responsibility. This requirement was shared with you in advance of your arrival to campus and it is not the responsibility of NBCC to provide a laptop for your program needs.

You will receive an email reminder close to or shortly after your due date. If your device is not returned shortly after your due date, the full cost of the laptop ($2,000) will be added to your student account. NBCC will withhold College certifications and transcripts of marks of all students who have not returned their loaned device due back to the College. Upon payment of due fees and/or return of due equipment, the College will release the certification and transcripts of marks.

If you have additional questions or concerns regarding the laptop loan program or regarding the laptop you have borrowed, please email us at library.coordinators@nbcc.ca.
